PM8 not operate on a laptop without a network connection.
When trying to log into PM8 the following error message is reported:
Unable to complete network request to host "localhost".
Failed to locate host machine.
The specified name was not found in the hosts file or Domain Name Services.
PM8: All versions
The database engine listens for requests on a network interface. If there is no network interface then the database engine has no way of listening for incoming requests from PM8.
When you have a network present, the database engine listens on that network interface (subject of course to firewall restrictions), but when you disconnect the network then Windows disables the network interface and the PM8 database engine has no way to listen.
To solve this issue you might think to turn off media detection on the ethernet interface, but this is not how this issue should be solved. Do not turn off media detection in an attempt to solve this problem.
To run PM8 on a laptop when there is no network connection (i.e. no wired or wireless connection) you need to install the Windows loopback adaptor.
This is the procedure dor Windows 10. Other versions of Windows will be similar.
On Windows 10, this is how you install a loopback adaptor, however you must seek professional advice before making any such change as it is not something that WH Software Limited can help you with.
