When installing InstaCode on a new computer and you want to move your custom data from the old computer to the new computer.
IC: All versions
InstaCode allows users to save several types of user data; client records, master key systems, hooks locations, custom series, favourite series and series notes.
These are added to the local InstaCode database.
To move this information to another installation, a backup of the data must be created and then restored to the installation on the new computer.
Setup
menu choose Backup user data...
OK
ICUserDump.ifs
Cannot run InstaCode on the old computer
If you are unable to run InstaCode on the old computer, then look on the old computer for the most recently automatically-created backup.
The automatically produced backup files are namedICUserDump_<ICDATAVERSION>_<DATE>.ifs
and are saved to the location:
C:\ProgramData\WH Software\IC\9.0\UserArchive
When you copy the most recent one of these backup files to the new computer (See step 2 below) you will need to rename it toICUserDump.ifs
ICUserDump.ifs
to the following location on the new computer:C:\ProgramData\WH Software\IC\9.0\UserDump
C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder
C:\ProgramData (Note this is not referring to C:\ProgramFiles) is a Windows system folder and is normally hidden to prevent unintentional changes.
To see this folder you can:
(a) Turn on "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in your Windows folder options
Or if you prefer:
(b) In the File Explorer Address bar, type in the location C:\ProgramData (and press Enter) then navigate to the UserDump folder shown above.
If the progress bar is not seen, it may have been too quick. Check that the
ICUserDump.ifs
file has been deleted. If it has not been deleted, the InstaCode database already has user data saved which prevents the backup from restoring. In this situation, check the new installation for what user data is saved.
If you are happy to discard it, delete the folderC:\ProgramData\WH Software\IC\9.0\Data
and reinstall InstaCode withICSetup.exe
