When installing a new version of InstaCode, should the previous version be uninstalled first?
IC: All versions - note differences from 2026
This information is for the version if instacode that shipped from Janurary 2026 only
It is not necessary to uninstall the previous version when installing a new version but will not cause any issues if you do uninstall it.
When a new installation is performed, a database for your custom data is created only if it does not already exist and that custom database is not removed by the uninstallation process, leaving it to be used by a subsequent install.
Do not uninstall InstaCode prior to installing a new version.
When a previous version is detected, prior to installing the new version, the installer will run the previous version in a way that exports your custom data (clients, hooks, notes, master-key systems and custom series).
After installing the new version, InstaCode will run and import the exported custom data.
If the previous version is uninstalled, your custom data will not be exported prior to the new installation and it will be lost.
